If you are a Chromebook user, you might have noticed that Zoom has added a banner in their Chrome app indicating that Zoom app will no longer be officially supported after August 2022. Instead, Zoom PWA has been launched to replace the Zoom app which can be downloaded from Google Play or pwa.zoom.us/wc/ (click the "Install Zoom" in the address bar).
OKIOCAM Not Working in Zoom PWA
Recently, we have received several feedback from customers reporting that their OKIOCAM does not work with Zoom PWA. After looking into this incident, we found that there are indeed some compatibility issues with the supported video formats between OKIOCAM and Zoom PWA. Therefore, a new version of firmware has been released to fix the problem for those who need to use their OKIOCAM in Zoom PWA.
Important Things To Know Before Updating Firmware
The firmware can only be updated on a Mac or Windows PC and is currently not possible to be done on a Chromebook. However, if you update on either a Mac or Windows PC, it will automatically update on all operating systems no matter the device used.
Due to the compatibility issues between OKIOCAM and Zoom PWA, the physical button for zooming in and out will NOT function particularly in Zoom PWA, but it will still work in other software as it used to do.
If you encountered any tech issues or decided to undo the update, you can always download the normal firmware version from this website to cover the current one. Once the update is undone, your OKIOCAM will not work in Zoom PWA.
Firmware Update Tool
After reading above and you decide to try out the new firmware that supports Zoom PWA, please download the Firmware Update Tool by clicking on the corresponding model and OS listed below.
- OKIOCAM S - Windows
- OKIOCAM S - macOS
- OKIOCAM T - Windows
- OKIOCAM T - macOS
- OKIOCAM T Plus - Windows
- OKIOCAM T Plus - macOS
- OKIOCAM S2 - Windows
- OKIOCAM S2 - mac OS
Once the download is completed, please extract/unzip the file and launch OKIOCAM Firmware Update Tool. Simply follow the instructions showing up to complete the update.
Alternative Plan
Besides updating the firmware, there are some other ways to get the OKIOCAM to work in Zoom PWA. However, these methods can be tremendously taxing on a device and result in a reduction of video resolution and/or frame rate. Therefore, we suggest that you test it out before going live.
Method 1. Screenshare Another Camera App
While your OKIOCAM might not be working with Zoom PWA, it still works with other software. Therefore, you can launch another camera app like the built-in Camera or OKIOCAM Snapshot and Recorder, then "Screenshare" the camera app in Zoom PWA.
Method 2. Access OKIOCAM Through Different App
You might be surprised to know that on a chromebook, different software can share the same camere at the same time. If you launch a camera app to access the OKIOCAM then launch Zoom PWA, the first app will share the camera access with Zoom PWA.
- Launch a camera app like "Camera" and "Snapshot and Recorder" to access OKIOCAM.
- Launch Zoom PWA and join/start a meeting.
- The same camera image will show up in both apps.
In doing this, you can use the OKIOCAM in Zoom PWA while keeping all the buttons working. The only limitations are that you will need to keep the first software open to maintain the camera access of OKIOCAM, and the maximum resolution in the second app (Zoom PWA) cannot exceed the resolution setting in the first app.
